The lives of two sisterwitches are about to be turned upside down, bringing everything they knew burning down around them.
It has been two years since Katie Cross released the last book in her breath-taking Network Series. Throughout said series, readers met dozens of characters, brilliantly realized and easy to fall in love with. The sisterwitches Isadora and Sanna were two of them. The end of their story arc in the original series made me want to read and learn more about these two fierce women, and Katie does just this in Flame, the first book in her new Dragonmasters Trilogy. I enjoyed Isadora’s discovery of her powers as a Watcher, and I really look forward to seeing how it all develops over the next two books. Although I feel more attached to Isadora (she is a homebody like me), I love Sanna for her spunk.
Along with fleshed-out and loveable characters, the Network Series sported wondrous and magical locations such as the bustling Chatham City, the clandestine Northern Network, and many more. We return to a few familiar locations in Flame, but we also get a large taste of new locations such as Miss Sophie’s School for Girls and the secluded village of Anguis.
In the Network Series, religious aspect such as deities and the source of the magic in possession of all the characters in the books. Flame, however, delves quite deep into religion, focusing in on misguided faith and more.
Flame is the perfect book for readers familiar with Katie Cross’s books and also an excellent entry point for those new to the world of Antebellum. I am definitely excited to see where the story goes!
